A vital link to the outside world was severed today as DFDS Seaways pulled the plug on the twice weekly service between Consett Docks and Bergen, Norway.
DFDS has cited the spiralling cost of oil and the spiralling costs of everything in the UK. A spokesperson for DFDS today said 'It's a real pity, but the Norweigans are simply finding it cheaper to shop at home.'.
DFDS will be looking at leasing the Princess of Scandinavia ship out to interested parties and may soon be docked underneath a bridge near you. Write Comment (0 comments) |

A 27-year-old Stanley woman is setting off from the UK to take part in the world's highest marathon.
Jodie Cheesegrater, mother of 14, 60 a day smoker and alcoholic is embarking on a 12-day hike to Central Station in Newcastle, then it's onto Everest Base Camp before she starts the gruelling 27-mile course.
Her condition means the low oxygen levels, high altitude and lack of off licence are potentially life-threatening if she isn't able to spark up.
Living in Stanley affects more than 8,000 people and there are more than two million known visitors to Stanley in the UK.
The marathon begins on May 29, the anniversary of when Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay first conquered Mount Everest.
She said: "I'll have my mobile topped up and with me just in case I need to call a taxi. I'm mega-nervous, but very excited as well as I've never been to Scotland before." Write Comment (0 comments) |
